Play Building Session - Bringing Improv Skills to the Stage
In our summer Session, Level II students from our popular Improv to the Rescue class will further their growth by participating in a unique theatrical experience. This course offers an exciting opportunity for students to apply the improvisation techniques and narrative abilities they have developed in previous sessions to create and perform in a Caryl Churchill play, Love and Information.
Course Overview: Throughout this immersive play building session, students will explore the dynamic intersection of improvisation, scripted material, and stage performance. They will collaborate with fellow participants, guided by facilitator and director Barbara Colaciello, to create a captivating theatrical production.
WHEN: Tuesdays + additional rehearsal times agreed upon by troupe
TIME FRAME: Tuesday, June 20 through August 3.
TIME: 7 pm - 9:30 pm
WHERE: BABS’LAB, 603 King St.
TUITION: $120. for 6 classes including all additional rehearsals.

COSTUMES: Actors will be responsible for cost of wardrobe if pieces are needed.

Note: Prerequisite for this course is completion of Level I and Level II of our Improv to the Rescue class or equivalent experience with prior approval from the instructor. All actors must be available for Tuesday night class. They will meet with their scene partners at other times.
ADDITIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Character Development: Participants will delve into the art of character creation, exploring various techniques to bring their roles to life. They will develop a deep understanding of their characters' motivations, desires, and relationships, infusing their performances with authenticity and depth.
Collaborative Storytelling: Working as a team, students will be part of the decision making process regarding where scenes are set and who are the people involved. They will learn how to actively listen, support their fellow performers, and collectively shape the direction of the story.
Improvisation within the Play: The play building process will incorporate improvisation as an integral component fostering a sense of creative freedom and exploration.
Rehearsals and Performance: Participants will undergo a series of rehearsals, fine-tuning their performances under the guidance of our skilled instructors. The culmination of their efforts will be a live performance, where they can showcase their newfound skills and entertain an audience.
